What Is the A.M.P. Residency?

The Artist Mentorship Program (A.M.P.) is a 12-week, one-on-one residency that pairs young artists with a professional producer-mentor. Each resident gets dedicated studio time, original-song development support, and walks away with a professionally mixed and mastered track ready for release.

But A.M.P. is about much more than making music. It's a structured environment where emerging artists learn discipline, communication, creative problem-solving, and self-advocacy, skills that translate far beyond the studio walls.

The Mentorship Model That Works

Traditional music education often focuses on theory and technique in isolation. A.M.P. flips that model. Every session is built around the artist's own creative vision. The mentor's job isn't to teach a curriculum. It's to help the artist realize the song they hear in their head.

This approach builds ownership. When a 16-year-old walks out of the studio holding a finished track that they wrote, arranged, and performed, the confidence shift is visible. They didn't learn someone else's song. They built something from nothing, and they did it with professional guidance.

Our mentors are working producers, people who are actively making music, running sessions, and navigating the industry. That real-world context matters. Artists aren't learning from textbooks; they're learning from practitioners.

Impact Beyond the Studio

We've seen A.M.P. residents improve their grades, re-engage with school, and develop healthier relationships with peers and family. Music becomes the vehicle, but the destination is always personal growth.

One parent told us: 'My son used to come home and go straight to his room. Now he comes home and plays us what he worked on. He's talking again.' That's not a music outcome — that's a life outcome.

The program also connects young artists to a community of peers who share their passion. Many of our residents stay connected long after their cohort ends, collaborating on projects, attending showcases, and mentoring the next class.

What Your Donations Actually Fund

Every A.M.P. residency costs approximately $2,500 to run. That covers 24 hours of studio time, a professional producer-mentor for 12 weeks, mixing and mastering of the final track, and access to adaptive equipment when needed.

When you donate to EQ Records, you're not funding overhead — you're funding direct artist contact hours. Every dollar goes toward studio time, mentorship, and the tools young artists need to create professionally.

Our goal for the next year is to fund 12 full residencies. That's 12 young artists who will walk out of the studio with a finished track and a fundamentally different relationship with their own creative potential.

How to Get Involved

There are multiple ways to support the A.M.P. Residency. You can donate directly to fund a residency spot, volunteer your time as a session assistant, or partner with EQ Records as a corporate sponsor.

If you're a producer or engineer interested in mentoring, we're always looking for qualified mentors who share our values. The application process is straightforward. Reach out through our Join page and tell us about your experience.

Every contribution matters. A $25 donation covers one hour of studio time. A $100 gift funds an entire recording session. And a $500 contribution covers half a residency. There's a place for everyone in this work.
