Questions and answers
The Artist Mentorship Program (A.M.P.) is a 12-week, one-on-one residency that pairs emerging artists under 25 with a professional producer-mentor. Each resident receives 24 hours of studio time, personalized mentorship in songwriting, recording, and production, and walks away with a professionally mixed and mastered track ready for release.
Our producers are working professionals with 8–15+ years of experience in music production, engineering, and mentorship. They specialize in genres from hip-hop and R&B to electronic, indie, and jazz. Each producer is vetted, trained in mentorship principles, and actively recording and releasing music alongside their A.M.P. work.
Traditional music lessons focus on technique and theory in isolation. Mentorship at EQ Records is relational. Our producers guide artists through their own creative projects, building songwriting, production, and performance skills in the context of real music the artist cares about. The goal isn't to teach a curriculum; it's to help the artist realize their creative vision.
No prior studio experience is required. A.M.P. is designed for emerging artists at any skill level. Whether you've been writing songs for years or you're just starting to explore music, our mentors will meet you where you are and build from there. All you need is passion and a willingness to show up consistently.
The Adaptive Music Lab is our group program for artists with disabilities. Using screen-reader-compatible DAWs, tactile MIDI controllers, and custom adaptive setups, we ensure every artist has full creative control in the studio. The program culminates in a collaborative EP recorded and released by the cohort.
You can book a session directly through our website. Visit the Producers page, select the producer you'd like to work with, and click 'Book a Session.' Choose your preferred date and session type, and our team will confirm within 24 hours. First-time artists get a complimentary consultation to discuss project goals.
Every donation goes directly toward artist contact hours: studio time, mentorship, mixing and mastering, and adaptive equipment. A $25 donation covers one hour of studio time. A $100 gift funds an entire recording session. A $500 contribution covers half an A.M.P. residency. EQ Records is a registered nonprofit, and all contributions are tax-deductible.

Our team covers a wide range of genres including hip-hop, R&B, soul, gospel, jazz, indie, electronic, ambient, pop, neo-soul, and singer-songwriter. We don't limit artists to any genre. If you have a creative vision, we'll help you realize it professionally regardless of style.
The Songwriters Circle is a weekly workshop for lyricists under 25. Over 10 sessions, participants develop a song from initial concept to finished demo with guidance from EQ producers and guest writers. The program focuses on lyrical structure, melody, collaboration, and building a consistent creative practice.

Many alumni stay connected to the EQ community, collaborating on new projects, performing at our showcases, and mentoring the next cohort. We also help connect graduates with release and distribution resources.
Our physical studio is located in Spokane, WA, and all in-person programs run from that location. However, we're exploring virtual mentorship options and have shared our adaptive studio designs with partner studios in other cities. Follow our blog and social channels for updates on expansion plans.
